Rob Bell is one my favorite cultural observers. Even though he is known for his Christian teachings, his “good news” offerings speak to the deep humanness in all of us. He is the author of ten books, including the New York Times Bestsellers "What We Talk About When We Talk About God,"  "The Zimzum of Love," "Love Wins" and "What Is the Bible?" His podcast, called the RobCast, was named by iTunes Best of 2015. He’s been profiled in the New Yorker, toured with Oprah, and in 2011 Time Magazine named him one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. He has a regular show at Largo, the legendary comedy and music club in Los Angeles. I was lucky enough to have participated in some of Rob's "story" workshops and interviewed him about HIS now and future.

Ken Wilber is one of my favorite philosophers. Among the many things he taught me is the difference between religion and spirituality. When we talk about religion, even in 21st Century culture, we usually mean traditional church religion. What we don't include is the development of spirituality in the post rational stages of the evolution of expanding intelligence. Two clips from Ken are below. One on "everything is spirit" and the other on "religion vs. spirituality. "

Rob Bell Tour Film 2016  - Everything is Spiritual

Rob's film “Everything is Spiritual” is one of the best I have seen at explaining the evolution of expanding intelligence. Even though he calls it “spirit” he does not use that word or reference religion for the first 52 minutes of the film. I love his triangle white board.

Rob Bell Interview

It was my distinct pleasure to interview Rob about his view of the world of spirit, in all its humor and sacredness. Rob, like all of us, has been through a variety of chapters of work and life. From a rock and roll musician to pastor of a mega-church, to best selling author, Rob has always pushed cultural boundaries. In those moments of doubt that come sometimes, his deeply held grounding in the sacred has supported him in evolving his own considerable intelligence.

Ken Wilber - Everything is Spirit

If you believe that something is animating the evolution of expanding intelligence in this realm, spirit is certainly one way to describe it. In this clip, Ken explores what religious traditions have to say about spirit and if what they say is true, why  don’t we remember there is something bigger than ourselves.

Ken Wilber - Religion vs. Spirituality

A major confusion that Ken Wilber cleared up for me is the difference between religion and spirituality. Religion being the organized expression of spiritual experience and spirituality being the actual experience itself.

In this clip, Ken walks religious expression up through the human levels of development and shows us at each stage how it is different. This is important in really understanding how intelligence is expanding and evolving. Even now we mostly put most spiritual experience in the context of traditional religious traditions. We don't recognize the continuing development of individual contemplative spiritual practice as an important sign of our intelligence evolving.
